I was a singer in a bar until I was 28. I woke up one day and thought “How long can this last?” Pretty quickly, with a job offer from a good friend (and a good friend to this day), I was on my way to wearing a tie and jacket at an advertising agency in the Dupont Circle Building, writing jingles and radio and tv ads by day, and singing in Georgetown and Old Town Alexandria by night (including many nights at Gallagher’s Pub, 5 years or so at the Warehouse and 10 years at the Seaport Inn).

That adventure in advertising led to a few more years of titles in offices until I gave it up to begin 5 years as a TV cameraman and field producer at WTTG, and then 6 years at the broadcast center of the US Chamber of Commerce.

After that I started and ran my own graphic design business. In year seven I tried to move the business to Cape Cod, where I had been vacationing for a number of years. It was way before cell phones and such, so that didn’t work out so well. But again, with a helping hand or two and a little luck I was saved from being thrown off the island. An interview with the Cape Codder newspaper landed me the position of creative services manager and then design director. When my job was outsourced after 9 years, I worked as a photo journalist there for another 5 years. I was still playing guitar gigs when I discovered the ukulele in 2005! That’s 5 years worth of stories about how I became the Ukulele Guy of Cape Cod.

Then one day my wife said, “We’re starting a gift shop!” And that’s 6 years worth of stories. (We were named 2017 Business of the Year in our little town of Orleans, MA)

So there’s a brief bit about me. I have a business, I’m still doing graphic design, and I’m still writing and performing music.
